1788 Elderflower

Medicine, folk lore and summery cocktails.

The elder tree has been cultivated and used as a folk medicine for centuries, very popular in Northern Europe where it is made into a syrup and drunk during hot months.

Elderflower syrups has been administered to help with flu symptoms, alleviate allergies, rheumatism and respiratory problems.

It also features a lot in European folk lore where the "elder tree" was supposed to ward off evil influence and give protection from witches, while other beliefs say that witches often congregate under the plant, especially when full of fruit.

As such Harry Potters wand was also made from elder wood.

These days elderflower liqueurs and syrups are drunk in cocktails, iced teas and great for the summer months. .

Our Liqueur

In homage to Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus work, we decided to name our elderflower liqueur after the year it got its Latin name; Sambucus.

Made with French brandy and neutral grain spirits 1788 is perfectly balanced, with a strong floral opening and long finish of classic elderflower.

1788 Elderflower Liqueur is extremely versatile in cocktail creations and equally great on ice with a lemon twist.

Bouquet: Strong smell of elderflower coupled with hints of freshly cut lemon.

Taste: Well balanced sweetness with a strong elderflower flavour and long smooth after-taste.

Color: Light brown.


60ml Gin
45ml 1788 Elderflower
10ml Lemon Juice
2 Dashes Bitters
Garnish: As seen fit

Add all in ice filled shaker, hard shake and fine strain into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish and serve.

Summer Breeze Cooler

60ml Dry Vermouth
60ml 1788 Elderflower
20ml Lemon Juice
2 Dashes of Bitters
60ml Soda Water
Garnish: Lemon Twist

Add vermouth, liqueur, lemon juice and bitters in a big highball glass. Stir add soda water and top with lots of ice. Garnish with lemon twist


60ml 1788 Elderflower
70ml Sparkling Wine
20ml Lime Juice
8-10 Mint Leaves
45ml Mineral Water
Garnish: Mint Leaves and lime slice

Recipe: Put the mint leaves in your hand and clap hands together. This gets the mint to release its essential oils. Put mint into large wine glass and add ice. Pour the sparkling wine, soda water elderflower liqueur over the ice. Stir gently, garnish and serve.

Clean Slate Punch

30ml Hendricks Gin
30ml 1788 Elderflower
10ml Lime Juice
10cm Cucumber Cut into Pieces
Garnish: Cucumber and Various Fruits
Top With Champagne

In punch bowl add all ingredients except champagne. Let sit in fridge for 1 hour. When serving add to glassware and top with champagne

gIn Fashion

50ml Hendricks Gin
10ml 1788 Elderflower
2 Drops of Orange Bitters
Garnish: Cucumber and mint sprig

In whiskey glass add hand cut ice. Pour gin, Primet Elderflower and 2 drops of orange bitters over ice. Stir until the outside of glass become frosted. With a ice tong add a sliced cucumber on the inside of the glass and top with a mint sprig.


15ml 1788 Elderflower
45ml Gin
10ml SÄRKLASS Lime
10ml Fresh Lemon Juice
30ml Cranberry Juice
2 Dash Grapefruit Bitters
Garnish: Grapefruit Peel

Add all in ice filled shaker, hard shake and fine strain into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish and serve.
